Cool Under Pressure 6 of 10

Cool Under Pressure
6 of 10
Very few students enjoy taking tests. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. Try thinking of the pressure of testing as practice for the work world’s own explosive situations. You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.
The best way to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is prepare. Applying the motto “Be Prepared” holds true first time and every time. Prepare for that test, and you won’t worry about it. In fact, it will be your chance to shine, to reveal the hard work you have put into preparing for the test. You will be rewarded for the effort you have thrust into your studies. Preparation removes fear. Preparation helps you maintain your cool under pressure. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm; therefore, prepare and your coolness under pressure is sure to abound.

"Education is a marathon--not a sprint." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Education is a marathon—not a sprint.”
-Anon

What this statement means is that education is a big part of life and you need to take actions for yourself in order to achieve something really high; higher than your expectations. In marathons, you need to prepare yourself for the big day. You will need a lot of practice and be able to go higher each and every day. When you are faster, it has shown that you have completed what you desired. Like a marathon, in education, you need to focus a lot in school and study hard in order to graduate from school. After graduating you will be moving on to a higher step and you will end up getting a job. That job will require most if not all the skills that you have learned through education and practice.

Teamwork Skills 3 of 10

Teamwork Skills
3 of 10
Every time your class breaks into groups to tackle a challenge, you build teamwork skills. In college, you’ll continue to have these opportunities to practice voicing to others, and reaching compromises. By the time you leave college, you can be an expert in this important workplace skill.
Together
Everyone
Achieve
More
Individually you can achieve so much, but when you work with others for a common cause, the same objectives, you can accomplish a tremendous amount more. You synergize your talents, knowledge, and skills with those whom you work. All members of the team are edified together, a type of edification you can’t obtain by working alone.

"When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bulls-eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim, improve yourself." Student Success Statement

“When an archer misses the mark, he turns and looks for the fault within himself. Failure to hit the bulls-eye is never the fault of the target. To improve your aim, improve yourself.”
-Gilbert Arland
I agree with this statement because in order for one to be good at something they need practice and when they fail, they need to improve themselves. The only way to improve one is to practice and one will become better at things they want to be good at. You should never blame a target for your failure; it is not their fault because they are not the ones doing the certain activity. If anything goes wrong it’s upon you; but it’s nothing wrong with not doing something good. If you really want to be good at something, improve yourself first and you will become good at it. For example, if you are playing soccer and you miss the goal, don't blame the goal post; the reason you miss is because maybe you just need practice. practice makes perfect. Belief in yourself and have faith that you will do good and you will succeed.

Balancing High School and Part-time Work Part 4

Balancing High School and Part-time Work
Part 4
He reminds students that “the activities and courses student choose vary considerably, so it’s important for young people to keep their individual situations clearly in mind.” MacGowan continues, “For example, student actors should allow for the fact that they won’t have as much time during performance season. Student athletes need to remember that times of the year that they’ll be tied up with games and practices. Other students who are in classes that make considerable demands outside of the classroom must keep that reality in mind.”

Student Success Statement
“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is—‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’ “
-Og Mandino
This statement means that there is a difference between failure and success. Being successful means being able so surpass challenges that you are confronted with in life. Being successful means adopting good habits. Failing means that you don’t try to overcome the obstacles that are put out. Failing means that you adopt the bad habits. An example of being successful is practicing something that you are not really good at, practicing becomes a habit and you get better at it. An example of failing is not practicing the things that you need to work on.

"You make your habits and your habits make you"

Student Success Statement
“You make your habits and your habits make you.”
Anon
Whatever you choose to do in life, it will later impact you for good or bad. Doing something repeatedly affects you, it becomes a habit. When you do something right and you do it continuously, it would be habit to do the right things. Choosing the wrong and doing it continuously will also become a habit in doing the wrong things. An example of doing what’s right is going to practice when you are in a sport. For example, if you are required to go to practice every day and practice on things you need to work on, then you will get better at those things. Doing it often will become a habit and you will become a better player. An example of doing what’s wrong is missing practice. For example, if you know you need to go to practice and you need to work on things you need improvement on, choosing the wrong in not going will affect you. It will become a habit on missing practice and you won’t become a better player.

"It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and (to make) unpopular that which is unsound (and not good)." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and (to make) unpopular that which is unsound (and not good).”
-Joseph Smith
Our daily life consists of many decisions. We must know what the decisions are the right ones to make. We must be wise to choose the right and receive a good consequence. Practicing the right at a daily routine will be powerful to others because they will be influenced by you. They will know that choosing the right will be their best choice to make. Avoiding the wrong will also help others because they will be avoiding making the wrong decisions that will result in bad consequences.

Successful Students 5-6

Successful Students
5-6
5.       Don’t sit in the back of the room. Successful students minimize classroom distractions that interfere with learning.
Students want the best seat available for their entertainment dollars, but willingly seek the worst seat for their educational dollars. Students who sit in the back cannot possibly be their professor’s teammate (see no. 4). Why do they expose themselves to the temptations of inactive classroom experiences and distractions of all people between them and their instructor? Of course, we know they chose the back of the classroom because they seek invisibility or anonymity, both of which are antithetical to efficient and effective learning. If you are trying not to be part of the class, why, then, are you wasting your time? Push your hot buttons, is there something else you should be doing with your time?
6.       …take good notes. Successful students take notes that are understandable and organized, and review them often.
Why put something into your notes you don’t understand? Ask the questions now that are necessary to make your notes meaningful at some later time. A short review of your notes while the material is still fresh on your mind helps you to learn more. The more you learn then, the less you’ll have to learn later and the less time it will take because you won’t have to include some deciphering time, also. The whole purpose of taking notes is to use them, and use them often. The more you use them, the more they improve.

Study for Multiple Exams Part 3

Study for Multiple Exams
Part 3
English, math, foreign language tips: PRACTICE – especially foreign language. It is hard to succeed in a foreign language class if you are just showing and doing the work. But if you are in your room and look at objects and try to say them in the language you are learning it actually helps. Or if you send a simple text to a friend think about it, can you translate that to Germans or Spanish? There are the little things that will help.
Here are my final words or wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: time management and organization are critical key factors to success in college. And never be afraid to go ask your teacher for help. They have office hours for a reason-use them!

Study for Multiple Exams Part 1

Study for Multiple Exams
Part 1
How I study for multiple exams, deal with multiple projects: Really it is my time management that I explained above. If I see I have multiple things due or to study for all at the same time I spread out my time beforehand. For example, if I have a test Monday and 2 tests Tuesday then I will study for my Monday test Thursday and part Friday. Start Studying for my next test on the second half of Friday and part of Saturday, then my second Tuesday test on Saturday as well and part of Sunday. Then Sunday night I can review for my Monday test because I already studied for it. When that test is over I can begin reviewing for the other tests.
My overall study method: I try to break it up over several days or at least two. I get bogged down if I try to pull an all nighter.
How I’ve overcome an initial bad grade: If I received a low grade I probably knew it was coming because I didn’t prepare properly or I didn’t use the right study habit for that class. I usually try to go over what I did wrong and sometime discuss with the teacher what I can do differently on the nest exam or what they suggest I do for studying for the next exam.

"Try a little harder to be a little better." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Try a little harder to be a little better.”
-Gordon B. Hinckley
There are many goals in life that people want to accomplish. In order for them to achieve those goals, they will need to be able to start from the bottom and work their way up. They will need to practice those things in order to get better. If they feel they need to work more, they will have to push themselves little by little in order for them to be able to achieve those goals.

On my break...

On my 3-week vacation, I didn’t really do much. Most of my time I went to my basketball practices. I had to wake up early around 7:30am because I had practice at 9. So I would have to wake up early to get ready to go to practice. Even though I didn’t like the fact that I had to wake up early, I still liked it because I had practice. Going to practice makes me happy. It also helps me improve on things a lot better. There are some things that I am not really good with, so I practice it as much as I can until I get it right.
Something else that I did on my break was homework, which I didn’t like much. For English, I was given a 455 page book to read. Every day I had to read 30 pages and then I had to write a dialectical journal for every 30 pages. Most of my time was spent on being at home and reading. After practice, I would come home and start on my reading. Even on Christmas day, I spent almost my whole day reading. Then, I didn’t read for 3 days so I fell behind so I read everything I had to read to catch up. In one day I read about 160 pages.
Another thing I did was help my mom on Christmas Eve. After I knew I read enough, I went to go help my mom make some food. We made some tamales and fruit punch. I enjoyed helping my mom because I know that while I’m doing something, she can do something else so she won’t stress herself over the things she needs to do. After, I stayed up all night just enjoying my music that I was playing loud. Also, so I won’t be so bored, I was texting with my friend. I slept till almost 7:00am the next morning.

Effective Study Methods Part 1

Effective Study Methods
Part 1
My test study method: when it comes time to study for the test, I usually start 2-3 days before the test. I go through my notes and make flashcards on what was important for those sections, paying special attention to what the teacher said would be on the test if there was a review session. Also, go through the book and read the inset stories and add to my flashcards. If there are practice problems or online assignments or old tests, I use those to help me study for the test as well. Once the test is over, I keep the flashcards so that I have them for the nest test or for the final. Flashcards are a marvelous learning tool. The key to remembering something is to repeat it numerous times-spaced rehearsal. If you forget something, it is because you haven’t repeated it enough times for an extended period of time. Repetition is a law of learning; therefore, to learn and remember, to recall, it is mandatory that you repeat over and over the things you desire to learn and remember. You may be thinking, “Oh, no, repeating something.” You need to get used to it. For example, the more you practice a song on the piano, the better you become at playing that song. Learning and remembering is like playing the piano-the more you practice saying or doing it the better you can remember it. Look now at what you remember. You remember it because you have repeated it numerous times since first being exposed to it. So, Practice rehearsing those things you desire to remember, and they will stick with you.
Practice--> Proficiency--> Pleasure
The better you remember, the more pleasure you obtain from studying and learning.

Academic Success Part 1

Academic Success
Part 1
My great academic success: In my principles of marketing class, we had to come up with a new product and sell it. My group ended up with a couple supposedly bad students according to our teacher since they were the last ones picked. In the end, they helped out more than needed since I was team leader I assigned them certain pieces of the project that became solely their responsibility. Delegating work always helps since it allows a group member individual work without separating the group.
English, math, foreign language tips: Math basically just takes practice. I always tell students to take a blank piece of paper and write everything you know about what you’ve learned or what you’re studying for in the class. If you don’t remember everything or start drawing blanks, then you need to study more and review your notes. Note cards work really well for foreign language.
Here are my final words of wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: Go to class, make friends with people in class just in case you’re absent, and remember that you should want to learn.
