"Education is a marathon--not a sprint." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Education is a marathon—not a sprint.”
-Anon

What this statement means is that education is a big part of life and you need to take actions for yourself in order to achieve something really high; higher than your expectations. In marathons, you need to prepare yourself for the big day. You will need a lot of practice and be able to go higher each and every day. When you are faster, it has shown that you have completed what you desired. Like a marathon, in education, you need to focus a lot in school and study hard in order to graduate from school. After graduating you will be moving on to a higher step and you will end up getting a job. That job will require most if not all the skills that you have learned through education and practice.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence...." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determinations alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problem of the human race.”
-Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States

What this statement means is that what leads someone to success is not having the greatest talent but having determination and being persistent in accomplishing something that you want. Achieving what you have dreamed of is the result of your own determination. Without your determination, you won’t have the courage and you won’t be persistent in accomplishing your dream goals. Not every one that is intelligent accomplishes what they want; the intellect doesn’t determine your accomplishments but your dedication and persistence.

"To see what is tight and not to do it is want of courage." Student Success Statment

Student Success Statement
“To see what is right and not to do it is want of courage.”
-Confucius
This statement means that if you know you must do something that is the best thing to do and you don’t do it, it shows that you are a coward. This also shows that you need the courage to take steps in order to do what is right. Having the courage to do something will make you achieve anything in life and you will be a successful person.  For example if you want to become a teacher you need to have the courage to study what you need in order to become a successful person.  Studying what you need to study will be the right thing to do because it will lead you to a great path of success.

"Improve your performance by improving your attitude" Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement “Improve your performance by improving your attitude.” -Anon What this statement means is that if you want to become better at something then you should be determined in accomplishing what you want. If you push yourself to improve in something that you need to improve in, then you will accomplish your way to success. If you don't try to become better at something, then you won't improve and you won't know if you can be better at it or not. so it's important to always try and to practice a lot in order to improve yourself.

"Gold medals don't make champions... hard work does." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Gold medals don’t make champions… hard work does.”
-Anon
What this statement means is that having medals and awards doesn’t mean that you are a champion, putting all effort in accomplishing something makes you champion. By putting a lot of effort in doing something makes you a champion because it comes to show that you are willing to face challenges and willing to do it. Yes at the end you get awards and medals for accomplishing something, but that just shows all the effort you put in it. For example if you are playing a sport and you and your team is losing, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose what matters is the effort you are putting in the game. Even if you lose you are still a champion because you put effort into doing something.

"Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.”
-Liane Cordes
I agree with this statement because when you put so much effort into something you will have the potential to do something in life. All your effort you put into something will encourage you to have the potential to achieve your dream goals and will get you far. For example when you are in school, you have to put a lot of effort to do well in your academic work. Once you’re done it will pay off later on because you will have the potential to become some one important in life.

"When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day.." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day.”
-John wooden
I strongly agree with this statement because in order to become better at something all you need to do is have a lot of practice and try harder every time to become even a more better player than you were the day before. It takes a lot of effort and dedication to get better at things; things that you desire to get better at. If you really want to become a better someone, you really have to focus on what you are trying to achieve. It’s important to focus on what you want to achieve because when you are focused and dedicated, you will become a better person and achiever.

Take Control of Homework Part 3

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn’t Control You
Part 3
Take Advantage of Any Free Time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER PUT IN ON A CARD.
Study with a Friend
Get together with friends or classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

"When you believe you can-you can" Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“When you believe you can-you can.”
-Dr. Maxwell Maltz
I agree with this statement because when you believe you can do anything, that is right, then you can do it. You just need to really believe in yourself; believe that you can do it. Having faith is also important because if you have faith in yourself, then you sure can believe that you can do anything. When you believe in yourself, you will have that strong and positive thoughts in you and it will motivate you to keep doing in what you believe you should do.

"You must live in the present to secure your future." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“You must live in the present to secure your future.”
-Reverend Robert Craig
What this statement means is that one should be living in the present in order to know what they will be doing in the future. When you live in the present you focus on what must be done in the present but you also prepare and make goals for you future. But in order to get where you want, you must first live the day day-by-day and just remember that there is something that you are wishing to soon strive for it.

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
This statement means that anything that lies around us does not really matter as much as what lies within us. There can be many things that surround us and it might not be important to us because it is not what you want to do or where you want to go. The most important thing that matters is the things that lie within us which are goals that we want to accomplish. By pursuing these goals nothing else around you will matter because you are only focused on what you want to achieve. For example if you are pursuing to become a doctor, you will only focus on what is needed in order to get there. It won’t and it isn’t necessary to focus on your surroundings because that is not what you want to do.

Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.” Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”
-Margaret Thatcher
The most important thing to do in life to do the right thing because it will bring you the best satisfactions of one’s life. The best satisfaction to receive or to have is to have pride at what you do and what you have accomplished. If there was something you’ve wanted to accomplish but it was difficult and you accomplished it, then you should have a personal satisfaction and feel pride that you have accomplished it. For example, if you wanted to take a career as a doctor and it was difficult for you to manage the work but you still got it done, then it is a big accomplishment.

:A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
-Thomas Carlyle
This statement means that that if you don’t have something that pushes and helps you to go somewhere, then you won’t go anywhere. Having a goal is as important as a ship having a rudder. When having a goal, you know what the things you are required to do in order to get there. The ships needs a rudder in order to move and go where it needs to go. An example would be if you want to become a doctor, you need to know all the things that are required for you to do in order to get there.

Managing your time well is an important element of success—especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Here are some tips for taking control of your time and organizing your life.
Tip 1. Make a To-Do List Every Day.
Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Tip 2. Use Spare Minutes Wisely.
When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.
Tip 3. It’s Okay to Say No.
If your friend asks you to go to a movie on a Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short- and long- term priorities in mind.
Tip 4. Find the Right Time.
You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
-Helen Keller
I completely agree with this statement. When people work alone, they can’t really accomplish many things. But when people work together, they can accomplish many things. Those people that work together are more than likely to be more successful and have a better future ahead of them. When working together, not only can you accomplish more things but you can also do things a lot better. You will have better ideas and strategies to do certain things. It is important having a variety of these ideas because it would be easier to have many solutions for a problem.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 2
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.
“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school-that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity-- that you earned it with perfect honesty.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 1

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 1
(by Sean Covey but modified)
Habit 1: Be Proactive.
Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choosing to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the laws. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be Proactive and take the initiative.

"Seek to do good and you will find that happiness will run after you" Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
Seek to do good and you will find that happiness will run after you.”
-James Freeman Clarke
In life, you will be faced with many challenges. Some will be harder to overcome than others. But if you plan to overcome it, then there wouldn’t be much of a problem. Overcoming that challenge will require you to make decisions. Those decisions are highly important because it may later affect you. If you make the wrong decisions, you will be facing bad consequences and you might not have a good life. You might have a bad conscience because of the things you did wrong. If you make the right decision, then you will be awarded with good consequences. You won’t have to worry about “What if…” all you will have to worry is whether or not you are making the right choice. Making the right choices depends all on you. For example, if someone offers you drugs, the best thing to say and do is say “No thanks!” and walk away. You will be proud of yourself for avoiding taking the wrong decision. But if you accept to take the drugs, you will later face the bad consequences of health problems and maybe even problems with the law. Another example of choosing the right would be going to school. If you go to school, you will have good education and it will help you decide on what your best at for your career.

"Try a little harder to be a little better." Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Try a little harder to be a little better.”
-Gordon B. Hinckley
There are many goals in life that people want to accomplish. In order for them to achieve those goals, they will need to be able to start from the bottom and work their way up. They will need to practice those things in order to get better. If they feel they need to work more, they will have to push themselves little by little in order for them to be able to achieve those goals.
